It's been a while, friends. Thanks for sticking with us. As we try to get back in the swing of semi-regular blogging, I've been lucky enough to receive a helping hand from guest writer Riley Ashley. I hope you enjoy her review, and look forward to sharing more with you all soon!
If you want an amazing fantasy dystopian novel, The Waxways series by Scott Reintegn is for you! It’s a story of dark magic and even darker lies, perfect for Harry Potter fans. There are so many secrets, they will absolutely blow your mind. Like the wyverns in the story, these books will sink their claws into you and never let go.
The series starts with, A Door in the Dark, which follows Ren Monroe as she and the other four main characters trek through the woods, trying to get back home for the holidays. Magic happens in the Waxway portal, which causes it to malfunction and strand them in the woods. One of them is dead when they land and none of them know exactly who or what killed him. All five have to put aside their differences and work together to get home. The storytelling captivates you and you will not want to put it down.
The second book in the series, A Whisper in the Walls, is just as good. Continuing Ren’s story and bringing in revenge, schemes, and even more advanced magic. The second in the series tells the story of a family destroyed after a minor wrongdoing. Ren works with the two remaining siblings from that family to get revenge on the House that destroyed them. She even gets a member of that House to betray his family. The third book in the series, A Burning in the Bones, was just released on February 4, 2025. I am super excited for this book and I know it will be just as good as the first two! I know I can’t wait to get one to complete my set of his books! Scott Reintgen is an amazing author.
If you like this series check out his other books: The Nyxia Triad, the Ashlords series, the newly released Last Dragon on Mars, all now available as ebooks!
